Holy moly. November has arrived. Which means:

WE’RE GETTING MARRIED.

IMMINENTLY.

I’m kinda freaking out a little right now. Because even though we are just doing an intimate courthouse wedding followed by drinks and dinner, we still need fanfare and pizzazz. I mean, it’s our wedding. So our/my to-do list looks like this:

  • apply for our wedding license in-person
  • learn how to put on makeup (I’ve never done more than mascara and lipstick. I am the laziest girl ever.)
  • pick out a cardigan to wear after the “ceremony” so I don’t freeze
  • practice walking in the awesome-but-deadly 3″ heels I got
  • buy jewelry
  • have my glasses adjusted so they stop slipping down my face (I’m using the wedding as motivation to finally get this done!)
  • make my DIY flower hair clip
  • find one of those sticky cup-only bras that actually fits (any suggestions from the small-chested ladies out there??)
  • order flowers & materials for our DIY bouquet and boutonniere
  • figure out downtown parking for the day of the wedding
  • make an itinerary for the day of the wedding so I/we don’t lose our minds
  • arrange accommodations for my dad, brother, and friend who are coming in from out-of-state
  • find a restaurant that can feed a hungry gluten-free & vegan bride, but that’s also big enough for our dinner party
  • plan what I’m going to make for Thanksgiving, which is two days after the wedding (more on that another day)

And on top of all of that, I am starting work 2 days a week at Anthropologie, AND I’d like to keep the blog going.

We should have eloped.

No no, I jest. In all honesty, we’re soooooo excited. And several of these things will be fast and easy once I/we just sit down and do them.

Plus, I’m trying to remind myself that it’s much more important we enjoy ourselves than that everything looks perfect. This is not an easy feeling to embrace for a perfectionist and chronic worrier, but I’m trying!

So, here’s to being productive BUT CALM during this busy month!

What’s keeping you busy as we approach the holidays? Any married folks out there with advice for how to relax about all the planning?

  1. Hey buddy! I have bra advice! How low in the back is your dress? I found that the sticky cups didn’t really work for me, but I bought a bra low back extender at VS that just lowers the hooks (it sounds crazy, but it works!). And your current to-do list looks great! My advice would be to embrace the day, and don’t worry if things don’t go to plan. The most important part is that you’re getting MARRIED. All other details on the day of will figure themselves out. Unless you don’t have your license. That’s a big deal. 😉

    1. Yay, thank you Mrs. Anderson! The dress back hits just below the normal bra band, so it sounds like that extender might work. Awesome tip! Thank you for your advice too! I’m trying to breathe, haha. And we are applying for our license tomorrow! 🙂

  2. Hey lady,

    Congrats again!
Let me know if you need any help with anything. I am not really planning weddings anymore full time as I am going back to medicine but I can certainly help! I second the VS bra thing but also the sticky cups can work too. I can help you with make-up as well if you need it – I love it!
And the biggest advice of all, is that when the day actually is here, forget the worries and all the planning – it will be amazing no matter what and enjoy every minute of it 🙂
    Good luck!

  3. Oh wow, oh wow, I can’t believe the big day is almost here! That went so fast! I know I’m all the way across vast oceans but if there’s any way I can help, just let me know. Sadly I don’t have much advice on make-up or bras because I too am a very lazy girl. But if you need anything else, I got your back 🙂 Good luck with all the prep! xx

  4. I’m feeling stressed from reading that list! They always say there’s so much more that needs to be done for a wedding than you think, and seeing it all in a list really shows that. So so so so exciting. I LOVE THAT CAKE!!! For a second I thought that was the cake sample or something, which potentially reveals that i know nothing about weddings. I’m a perfectionist and chronic worrier too, which is why eloping still remains my dream, ha.

Sending lots of love and stress-free vibes to you during this busy month!!! I can’t wait to see everything!

  5. Oh friend! This is all so exciting! I’m sure when it’s written down as a list, it can seem a little daunting and overwhelming. But you’re right, once you sit down to do just a few and cross them off, you’ll feel better. This is one of the most important events in your life, so don’t let that silly list bog you down and steal the joy of this very special time in your life!! Also, do you have a MAC anywhere near you? Usually, they will do your makeup for free if you buy a couple things. Might be worth it for the wedding – and kind of fun! Then you can be pampered a little, like a bride ought to be 🙂

Cannot wait to see it all come together – you are going to be stunning!

    XO

    1. Thank you, Lidy! You are so right, and I am keeping my chin up and just plugging through the to-do’s (and focusing on the I-do’s, haha!). That MAC tip sounds so nice–but alas, I use only natural, vegan cosmetics and there’s very few stores that carry them. But that’s ok, my bestie will be here to give me a little pampering! 🙂

Thank you for your support! Hugs! xoxo

  6. You’re going to cook Thanksgiving dinner too?!

That’s quite a hefty list you’ve got there! I think what helped me when I was planning my wedding was remembering that the to-do list was filled with happy pretty things. Everything I was doing pointed to marrying my husband.

But for some additional tips, don’t be afraid to delegate some tasks to friends or family who are willing to help. When people offer help, I’ve learned it’s best to take them up on it rather than fret over whether or not I’ll inconvenience them. If they truly didn’t want to help, they wouldn’t offer to do so. 🙂

P.S. SO GLAD I found your blog! I saw you pinned our wedding mad lib printable on Pinterest, and once I started reading through Jade & Fern, I got hooked! I hope you blog some wedding recaps! 🙂

    1. I am cooking for Thanksgiving! I’m a crazy person. But I’m also vegan and (at least for right now) gluten-free, which is just too many restrictions for my in-laws to accommodate. We’re not hosting, though, so there’s that! 🙂

You are so right about the to-do list! It is all bringing me closer to wedding day–which as of this writing is 3 days away. I’m mostly done, I just need to finish making the favors and get some pretty tights. Woo! And I have been getting help, as well as made an appointment with a salon to get my makeup done the day of!

Thank you SO MUCH for your kind and helpful comment! I just LOVE your mad lib printable and have already printed and cut it for our dinner guests! I will definitely take pictures of them in action to share with you! Do you have a hashtag you’d like me to use? 🙂
